MY CAMPAIGN

Promise | 01
Promise 01 | Help Everyone Secure CO-OP

I have recently acquired a CO-OP position at Gore Mutual as an Associate Software Developer. This was possible through the guidance and help of some HR representatives that mentored me and helped me through the process.

I will put resources in place for CO-OP positions by hosting mentoring sessions with HR representatives and recruiters. They have helped hundreds of people join fortune 500 companies and are active recruiters as well. I believe this will really help students gain that competitive edge and ensure they get a job of their choice.

Promise 02 | Help Readjust To Life Post-Pandemic

Covid has controlled our life for the past year, and it has really taken a toll on some people. We are forced to learn everything online, and although that may be easy for some people, it has also been very challenging for some. I plan to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 and create an efficient plan to deal with all the repercussions.

I plan on organizing extra help sessions to tailor a specific plan to each individual and fill any learning gaps due to online learning.

Promise | 03
Promise 03 | Initiatives To Help Students With Mental Health and Other Learning Obstacles

There is a lot of stigma around mental health issues and other learning obstacles. I plan on normalizing these issues and ensure that they are dealt with using the proper resources. COVID-19 has significantly affected people's mental health and morale. We have had minimal interactions with friends and family, which has stimulated a huge wave of depression and mental health issues.

If I am elected, I will try to ensure there are resources on campus to help us properly address our mental health and other learning obstacles.

Promise | 04
Promise 04 | Ensure Everyone Has Access To Affordable Textbooks And Other Course Materials  â€‹

Financial need is a huge issue at universities students do not have the required access to all the teaching material and textbooks. We are required to purchase online subscription/software, which starts to add up and burden students about their future.

My goal is to ensure all students, regardless of financial income, are able to gain access to these resources. I plan to introduce Facebook/social media groups for students to buy/sell textbooks and materials at a reduced cost. I plan on making scholarships more accessible to students and easier to find based on their needs.

Promise | 05
Promise 05 | Equality And Advocacy For Our Rights As Students

I am an active member of the community, and I strongly believe in equality and standing up against racial injustice and stereotypes. As a member of the South-East Asian community, I have experienced racist stereotypes and comments all the time. From my time on student council, debate club, MUN, and your constituency, I have learned to stand up against this and voice my concern.

I plan on creating a safe environment that is welcoming of all races, gender, ethnicity, culture, religion, and orientation.

Promise | 06
Promise 06 | Promote Teaching Through Proven And Progressive Techniques

As engineering students, we have a hefty course load filled with assignments, lectures, quizzes, labs, tests, midterms, and exams. It is challenging to really learn and understand some concepts. What we end up doing is memorizing for our evaluation and then forgetting the material.

I plan on pushing teachers to test our knowledge through group projects similar to what we have in 1P13. It will focus on problem-solving and applying our learning rather than memorization. I want to decrease the weight of midterms and exams similar to the Health Science program to decrease students' stress and anxiety.

Promise | 07
Promise 07 |  Fun Ways To Prepare For Exams Like Academic Decathalons and Jeopardy

Statistics show that students are more likely to retain information when engaged and participating rather than reading a textbook or listening to a lecture. Students have a minimal attention span in this day and age, and lectures tend to be quite long and unengaging. Instead, learning through group collaboration is more efficient and helpful towards yourself and your peers.

If I am elected, I plan on introducing game nights to study for exams and midterms. We will participate in games like academic decathlon, jeopardy, Kahoot, and many more! This will lead to better retention of course material and better academic success.

Promise | 08
Promise 08 | Organized Study Groups For Each Course In Engineering

Students have really struggled with social interaction due to COVID-19 and online learning. This has restricted us from communicating and creating a professional network. Networking is a huge part of university and often leads to lifelong friendships and job opportunities. Statistics show that students perform better on tests when they have studied in a group rather than individually.

I plan to introduce study groups in each class based on student compatibility and interests to prepare for evaluations and build a strong network.
