We were introduced to our client for project four, who suffers from numerous autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases, limiting her ability to do day-to-day tasks. Project four's objective was to help her with a task to improve her overall wellbeing. In an interview with her, she informed us that she struggles with lifting things off the ground. Moving and bending over causes her a significant amount of pain, and if she must do this multiple times in a day, she cannot get out of bed the next day. To help the client, we created a device that assists her in picking items up around her while minimizing bending at the waist. It can grab most things, ranging from small items like Legos to oversized items like wet towels. It also has an anti-slip rubber grip to ensure that things do not fall out while she moves them. We have also made multiple handle attachments for her to use, whichever she feels comfortable with because she mentioned that she faces different types of pain day to day. One handle is compatible with a wrist brace while the other works without. The effective weight that she feels when she pulls laundry out of the washing machine is minimized because she can use the device as a lever. Another feature is an extending shaft capable of locking and being used at any length. The device is catered to all of our client's needs and was specially designed after reviewing each portion with her.
